Awards of the Month
The Mayor and City Council made Awards of the Month presentations at Monday’s meeting. The recognition of these special people acknowledges the importance each citizen can play in the lives of the town and of others. Congratulate these recipients when you meet them on the street and remember their contributions to the our town. You have benefited from their endeavors.
Leading the Pledge
Church of the Month: Free Will Chapel Free Will Baptist Church
Pastor Arnold Sheets and his wife came from West Virginia two years ago. He reminded the Council that “Righteousness Exalteth a Nation!” and encouraged them in their duties. He thanked the Mayor and Council for upholding that which is good and for maintaining high standards for the city.
Veteran of the Month: Rodger Guin
Mr. Guin joined the US Navy in 1972 and served in several locations in America and abroad. He has been married to his wife Cindy for 44 yrears. They have three sons and have been residents of Vernon for 16 years. Mr. Guin is very proud to have served his country for 20 years.
Business of the Month: Mac’s Minit Mart
Lisa Chism and Daphne Barnes, employees at the Vernon store accepted the award on behalf of their employer. They have great support from the employees at Marathon as well as the daily customers. Pleasing the customers is what they enjoy most about their jobs.
Citizen of the Month: Tracey Walker
Tracey Walker, principal at Vernon Elementary School, expressed her gratitude for being recognized. She feels she is blessed to be a part of such a great community and all of the people that surround her. She considers her students and their parents to be reasons for her being able to enjoy her position at the school.
